Mercedes-AMG has announced the next-generation C63 will lose the RWD V8 of Nürburgring and will unveil the sports sedan later in 2022.

The gas engine won't be just any four-pot, however. According to Autocar, the engine will be the crazy 2.0-liter hot hatch engine Mercedes has deployed with more than 400 horsepower in AMG 45 models. For the AMG C63, the engine will be tuned to 470 horsepower. Adding a 201-hp electric motor on the rear axle will bump total output to around 670 hp with 553 lb-ft of torque.

The all-new top-performance W206 will be called the Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance. Its powertrain consists of a 2.0L turbocharged engine, a 2-speed electric motor on the rear axle and an all-wheel drive 4MATIC system for the first time on the C63 model. The car also gets an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.
